Each spring, Delaware Electric Cooperative selects outstanding high school juniors to take part in the annual Electric Cooperative Youth Tour. This year, Allison Benton, Summer Davis and Madison Kibler were chosen to represent Delaware at the 2020 Youth Tour, scheduled to be held in Washington, D.C. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, the 2020 Youth Tour was canceled. While the three students DEC selected were unable to spend a week with 1,700 other students from across the nation, we want to recognize them for their academic records and interests outside of the classroom.
Youth Tour student Allison Benton attends Milford High School, where she serves as a member of student government and treasurer of the class of 2021. Benton is also involved with National Honor Society, Future Health Professionals, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Leo Club, the Math League and the Bridge Building Competition Team. She also takes part in the Academic Challenge program and has been the MVP of Milford High School’s swim team the past two years. Benton enjoys volunteering and has been making masks for Bayhealth’s Sussex Campus. Following high school, Benton plans on attending college, majoring in pre-med and hopes to become a radiologist or orthopedic surgeon.
Madison Kibler will be a senior in the fall at Polytech High School, where she has been studying in the criminal justice pathway. In her free time, Kibler enjoys riding horses and taking care of her two pet reptiles. After high school, she plans to attend college to study veterinary medicine. Because of her love for animals, Kibler’s goal is to become a vet for exotic animals.
Summer Davis is a rising senior at Milford High School, where she is taking AP courses and participating in Delaware Technical Community College’s Academic Challenge. Davis plays varsity field hockey, swimming, tennis and is involved in the National Honor Society, Business Professionals of America, DECA and yearbook. She is also the vice president of the student government and has received numerous awards for her academic and athletic achievements. Davis plans on attending the University of South Carolina and studying business.
